A trip to the weekly market is an absolute must for all visitors to Portogruaro. It takes place every Thursday morning in the old town centre. Tradition and variety are the watchwords as stalls of all kinds with items to suit all tastes fill the central square, the main street and the whole surrounding area. They offer a blend of foodstuffs from Eastern Veneto (including mature cold meats and traditional cheeses, and fruit and vegetables from the surrounding countryside), along with exceptional examples of local craftsmanship and north-eastern flair. The backdrop of historical buildings complements the spellbinding array of colours, sounds and architecture that makes a stroll through the market a truly unique experience.
Meet the guide outside Villa Comunale on Piazza Castello at 9.30 am and begin the tour of the town’s main architectural and historical sights. The tour will conclude with an aperitif in a traditional establishment by the Lemene River. It will be followed by free time to visit the large market in the town centre and the shops.
